un·dis·cour·age·able: not capable of being discouraged

Acts Chapter 5

The high priest and his officials, who were Sadducees, were filled with jealousy. They arrested the apostles and put them in the public jail. But an angel of the Lord came at night, opened the gates of the jail, and brought them out. Then he told them, “Go to the Temple and give the people this message of life!” (v. 17-20)

The captain…arrested the apostles… “We gave you strict orders never again to teach in this man’s name!...Instead, you have filled all Jerusalem with your teaching about him… (v. 26-28)

But Peter and the apostles replied, “We must obey God rather than any human authority.” When they heard this, the high council was furious and decided to kill them. But…Gamaliel… said to his colleagues…my advice is, leave these men alone. Let them go. If they are planning and doing these things merely on their own, it will soon be overthrown. But if it is from God, you will not be able to overthrow them. You may even find yourselves fighting against God! (v. 29-39)

And every day, in the Temple and from house to house, they continued to teach and preach this message: “Jesus is the Messiah.” (v. 42)

BOTTOM LINE:

When you’re ON MISSION with Jesus,

Every obstacle is an OPPORTUNITY

And every setback is a SETUP.

One day Jesus told his disciples a story to show that they should always pray and never give up. -Luke 18:1

So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. -Galatians 6:9

THIS WEEK’S DISCOVERY BIBLE STUDY:

Read Luke 18:1-8 out loud. Then retell the passage in your own words. Then discuss the following questions:

  • What does this passage teach us about God?

  • What does this passage teach us about people?

  • If this is true, what should I do in response?

  • Who could I share this with?
